The study of the entire compendium of an Authors’ works requires compiling and digitizing the collected works of an author. In this particular study, the focus of the research and the primary material was limited to the 382 poems of William Butler Yeats. The poems were found already digitized and were accessed through an online volume of the complete works of William Butler Yeats. The poems were then analyzed through topic modeling software called Voyant tools. The software illuminates: term/ word frequency, phrase repetition, and the distribution of words/ images. Furthermore, some collect works were run through another topic-modeler called: Poemage. However, the compendium work in Voyant was given the greatest analytical weight, for that work most assembles the theoretical framework for this study.

The theoretical concepts of Charles Mauron guided the analysis process, such that the most frequently occurring words and themes were determined to be, “obsessive.” Charles Mauron would posit that word repetition and reoccurring metaphors are products of the unconscious mind. This study made no attempt to assemble an unconscious mind, but identified obsessive metaphors and language as indicative of an authorial personality. The analysis of the poems, which contained 82,667 words was and is the most formalist and objective form of analysis that could be conducted. However, for conclusions the results were interpreted and compared with the common perception of Yeats or the “mythic personality,” which has been reified by the literary community.
